Creation of MOOCs and e-Learning Contents

This training is composed on two Workshops:

  • Workshop 1 : Training in the design and production of MOOC content such as videos, text documents, demos, etc.
  • Workshop 2 : Training in how to produce exercises for formative and/or quantitative assessment in Maths, or Peer Review assignments on Maths and applied subjects.

All the contents, including preparing video storyboards for recording, glossaries and different kinds of assignments, will be developed using templates and good practices for preparing Maths MOOCs’ topics.

The training will be split into two periods:

In the first period we will start the formation with the same group of 31 professors who have already assisted in the first training "Hardware and software courses". It will take place at Instituto Técnico de Lisboa, during 3-day workshops organized by MOOC Técnico team.

The second period will consist exactly of the same courses and the same training, but the training will take place in Morocco as described in the presentation of the training "Hardware and software courses".

Almost the same team that had taken hardware and software courses (link to website) in Almeria continued the training, and this time on Moocs and e-learning contents by professors from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST).

Due to the constraints of the Covid-19 pandemic, this training with that on pedagogical approaches (link to website) took place in parallel at IST, Lisbon Campus, from March 21 until March 25, 2022.

The first day began with a welcoming session in the amphitheater of IST Mathematics Department with the interventions of:

  • Fátima Montemor (Vice President of IST for the International Area)
  • Luis Oyonarte Alcala – Project Coordinator (University of Almeria)
  • Driss Bennis- Morocco Project Coordinator (Faculty of Sciences; Mohammed V University in Rabat, Morocco)
  • José Mourão (Chair of Mathematics Department)
  • Foud Bennis (Prof. Centrale Nantes)
  • Ana Moura Santos (Prof. Técnico Lisboa)

During this week, Prof. Ana Moura Santos from Técnico Lisboa, with some colleagues from IST Mathematics Department gave several training sessions on the production and design of online courses.

"An essential part of this training will be how to produce video content, making expository parts of mathematics content more appealing and using the video format to give a visual support to more abstract ideas", highlights Professor Ana Moura Santos, lecturer at the Department of Mathematics (DM) and coordinator of the Técnico MOOC platform. "Another part will be how to structure content that accompanies these videos, resulting in an online course that can be used by mathematics faculty, both internally in Moroccan HEIs, and reaching potential students in more remote parts of Morocco", she adds.

In parallel with the training program, this week was also an opportunity to exchange information on infrastructures and projects between Moroccan and Portuguese mathematics professors.

The week ended with a Lisbon Tour and a dinner in one of the most iconic restaurants in Lisbon, with some touches of Muslim culture inserted in its building.
