Technological imaginaries and processes of urban construction in the modern city. The train, the car and the ICT
Keywords:
Social imaginaries, technology, city, cultural preparationAbstract
The hypothesis this work develops is twofold. On the one hand, technological imaginaries affect the ways and forms that the city adopts. And, at the same time, both the very own development of cities and the needs and lifestyles that emerge are feeding the ideas, values, and beliefs about technologies. Understanding these relations allows not only to include in the technological imaginaries analysis the fundamental role that city life has had on them, but also to consider the conditions of the cultural production of the city. To tackle this problematic, we take a cultural studies perspective that makes possible to consider the multiple relations that we seek to explain.Downloads
