Re(VI)VIENDO Cabo de Gata: entropy through dérive
Keywords:
(Vi)viendo, Cabo de Gata, entropy, dérive.Abstract
In 2010, I documented a dérive using photography and video at the Natural Park of Cabo de Gata. The aim of it was to register the emotions that an environment transformed by human activities could provoke to the traveller. Further development of the collected material resulted in a project entitled ‘(VI)VIENDO’. This practical-artistic experience lacked a written theoretical background at that time and, with the object to overcome this, it is intended to rediscover this creative process from a Situationist approach while building on the concept of entropy coined by Robert Smithson in 1967. The object of the present article is to make evident the usefulness of derive as a constantly renewed research methodology and to state a concept of alternative beauty which is only legible once the spectator is enabled to dissent the traditional aesthetics.Downloads
