Venue

The conference will be held at the Campus of the University of Almería, located on the seafront, 7 kilometers away from the city center.

The registration desk and conference room will be located at the university auditorium, in the street “Calle Rafael Escudero” of the campus.

Social events

On Wednesday 5th, two social events are scheduled:

– A visit to the city center, in which we will walk on the streets of the old town around the castle and the cathedral. There will be dedicated busses that will transfer participants from the University to the city center. Meeting point: at 17:30 at the L19 bus at the University (north) or at 18:15 at Puerta de Purchena in the city center.

– Welcome reception at “La azotea del Hotel Catedral“. It will be an open-air cocktail dinner in a nice location with views to the Castle (La Alcazaba), the Cathedral and the harbor.

The conference dinner will be on Thursday 6 at the Club de Mar restaurant, located right by the sea front, in the marina. Click here to see the menu.

Both events are within walking distance from the hotels in the city center.

Hotel information

The conference will take place at the University campus, located in the outskirts but well connected to the city by bus (approximately 25 min. trip). There are many options, but basically hotels are located either in the city center or in the north part of the city (Avenida del Mediterráneo, 2.5 km to the city center).

All the hotels listed above, are close (less than five minutes walk) to a bus stop with lines going to the University campus. Note that the social activities (reception on Wednesday 5th and conference dinner on Thursday 6th) will take place in the city center.

How to reach

By train/bus

Train tickets can be bought on the RENFE web site (https://www.renfe.com/). For the intercity bus connections, check ALSA.com.

By plane

Almería has a small airport (LEI) in which the following airlines are operating at the time of the conference: Iberia, Vueling, easyJet, Ryanair and Jet2. There are direct flights from Madrid, Barcelona, Sevilla, Bilbao, Barcelona, London, Manchester and Brussels. You can get to the city centre from the airport by taxi or by bus (line 30). Other alternative airports are:

Málaga Airport (AGP) is the largest airport in southern Spain. It is located 213 km away from Almería and travel time by car will be about 2 hours. Even though there is a daily bus from to the airport to Almería, it takes 6h30m. Alternatively, you may transfer to the train/bus station in Málaga city centre, which takes 20 minutes in a suburban train (line C1, Renfe cercanías). From there, best connections with Almería take about 3 hours. Further information here.

Granada Airport (GRX) is located 176km away from Almería and it takes less than 2 hours to travel from there. From Granada center, it takes about 2 hours to get to Almería by bus or train. Further information here.

Alicante Airport (ALC) is located 282km away from Almería and travel time by car is about 3 hours. There are few buses from the airport to Almería with a travel time of about 5 hours. Further information here.

Local transportation

There are multiple bus lines connecting Almería with the university. Commuting time might vary from 20 to 40 minutes. A single trip ticket costs 1.05€. Usually you are able to pay by card at the entrance of the bus, but we recommend you to have cash up to 10€ banknote. The main lines are:

COVID information

Wearing face masks is still mandatory in Spain in hospitals, pharmacies and public transport. This includes buses, trains, taxis and flights landing or taking off in Spain. There is no need of wearing it at any place of the university.
