An Advanced Course on Topological Quantum Field Theories took place at the University of Almería from October 19th to 23rd, 2009.
The study of Topological Quantum Field Theories (TQFTs) establishes new exciting relations between mathematics and physics connecting deep ideas from algebra, geometry, topology, and physics. This course on TQFTs aims to engage PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in these new developments together with international experts in the field. Lectures were given by:
- Joachim Kock (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona)
- Andrey Lazarev (University of Leicester)
- Gregor Masbaum (Institut de Math. de Jussieu / Université Paris Diderot, Paris 7)
- Timothy Porter (University of Wales, Bangor)
- Christoph Schweigert (Universität Hamburg)
This course was followed by the XVI Encuentro de Topología from October 23rd to 24th, 2009. This is the annual meeting of the Spanish Topology Network (Red Española de Topología), which aims to bring together people interested in topology and related areas. This time, the invited speakers were the following:
- Valentín Gregori (U. Politécnica de Valencia)
- Vicente Muñoz (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas)
- Aniceto Murillo (U. Málaga)
- Pere Pascual (U. Politècnica de Catalunya)
- Rubén Sánchez (Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf)
Poster sessions were organized for both activities.
There was a limited number of grants covering travel and/or lodging expenses for young participants.
Both activities were organized by the University of Almería, under the sponsorship of the Spanish Topology Network (RET), the Ingenio Mathematica project (i-MATH) and the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
The organizing committee is looking forward to meeting you again in Almería:
- David Llena Carrasco (U. Almería)
- Fernando Muro (U. Barcelona)
- Frank Neumann (U. Leicester)
- José L. Rodríguez Blancas (U. Almería, coordinador)
- Miguel Ángel Sánchez Granero (U. Almería)
- Antonio Viruel Arbáizar (U. Málaga)
