Welcome to the VI International Symposium on Papaya

Dear friends and colleagues,

On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to invite you to participate in the VI International Symposium on Papaya to be held from 25 to 29 September 2023 in Almería, Spain, under the auspices of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) and the University of Almería as the Symposium Organizer. This event will take place in the Campus of the University of Almería (SE Spain), a beautiful Campus located at the very shoreline of the Mediterranean Sea. The venue for the symposium is located in the city of Almería, a city with more than 1,000 years of history. The venue is easily accessible for all attendees travelling to Almería airport, distant 10 minutes from the venue by car.

This Symposium will serve as an excellent opportunity to bring together researchers, students, technicians, stakeholders, nurserymen, growers, and investors interested in presenting their work, share their ideas and knowledge, and establish a vivid debate about the recent advances in papaya management, especially under protected cultivation, in order to discuss the future perspectives of Carica papaya and related species of the family Caricaeae.

The Symposium will be comprised of plenary and ordinary sessions, and poster display sessions, offering a compelling program with renowned keynote speakers. Participants will have opportunity to join a technical tour to the papaya orchards in greenhouses with different degree of technification, nurseries, packing houses and research facilities in order to get a complete idea of the recent advances papaya cultivation has exhibited in Almería, where the largest concentration of greenhouses in the world is located. Assistance to the prestigious Infoagro Exhibition, one of the largest worldwide Fair for greenhouse production, will be facilitated by its concurrent celebration at the same dates. Tickets at reduced price will be available. Simultaneous translation English/Spanish and Spanish/English will be offered to all participants. The Symposium follows successful previous meeting held in México in 2017.
