Concert: E Senza acqua la terra more

ARSNOVA NAPOLI (Auditorio de la UAL)

Bio: Ars Nova Napoli is a group formed in 2009 in Naples. Born with a love for the popular repertoire of Campania, for the first few years they took their work to the streets, making the streets of the historic center of the city their natural stage. Having become a choice over time, they believe with conviction in the importance of street art as a means of sharing popular culture and in free artistic expression. They play in squares, alleys and markets all over Italy and take part in important events and festivals in France, Spain, Greece, Switzerland, South Korea, Iraq and India. They participated in countless popular festivals, thanks to which they developed a direct link with the music and stories of Campania culture and were able to deepen their ethno-musical research in the rest of Italy. Currently the group performs a varied repertoire, open to the many sounds of the South and beyond, from Apulian pizzica to Sicilian serenades, from Neapolitan classics to Calabrian tarantellas, and also looking beyond its own borders discovers connections with Greek rebetiko and music Balkan. The current lineup is: Marcello Squillante: Vox&Accord;  Bruno Belardi: Double bass; Michelangelo Nusco: Violin&Trump; Antonino Anastasia: Percussion; Vincenzo Racioppi: Mandolin;  Gianluca Fusco:Vox&Guitar.

A Piano Night in Almeria: David Carfì  and Giacomo di Tollo

Centro Fundación Unicaja (Paseo de Almería, 69)

David Carfi | Classic Pianist and composer, theoretical physicist, mathematician and expert in Decision and game Theory. The in-depth study of the two disciplines, Mathematics and Music, and his search for the common founding bases, have led him to hold, over the last thirty years, numerous conference-concerts on the subject and, for 25 years now, he has been regularly invited throughout Europe, Russia and the United States to exhibit, in concert, this artistic-scientific research activity. For his dual scientific and artistic commitment – he has been awarded numerous prizes: in 1999, in Reggio Calabria, “Carthage Prize” in 2001, the Anassilaos award “Antonio Oliva”, in 2005, the “Fiera di Messina” International Prize, in 2010, in Rome, the “Antonello da Messina” International Prize ” for “brain drain” and in 2016 the international “Orione” award. Compared to traditional concert forms, he prefers to establish other forms of relationship with the public: this choice includes, among other things, the possibility of using the philological score during the performances, which, far from taking away freedom, allows him, at each performance , a stimulating dialogue between the creator and the interpreter. The structure of the “extended concert”, which brings together different arts, remains, among all, his favorite; several times he has represented, in theatres, complex performances for which he also takes care of the direction and scenography; we like to remember “matrices” (Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, messina, 2001), “small grains of salt” (church of Santa Maria Alemanna, 2001, with famous soprano Anna Moletti Belfiore), “madness” (Teatro Vittorio Emanuele, 2002, with the French dancer and choreographer Chauner Gallan). The performances “The Little Pianist” and “Winter Red” also fall into this category, staged with great public success in 2017 and 2018. His continuous search for new languages and expressive modules led him to compose inspired by cinematographic subjects, pictorial works and, in general, the world of art.

Giacomo di Tollo | Born in Ortona, Italy, he obtained his Diploma with honors at the Pescara Conservatory and at the Accademia Pianistica delle Marche (I), afterwards studying chamber music at the well-known Accademia Pianistica “Incontri col Maestro” in Imola (I) with Piernarciso Masi and pianoforte with Leslie Howard (London, UK), Luciano Cerroni (Roma, I) and Sébastien Risler (Genève,CH). He has performed as a soloist and in duo in various concerts arranged in Italy, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Denmark, Luxembourg, Belgium, Poland, France, Norway and Germany. He has performed as a soloist with the Camerata Gigli orchestra (I), Angissimo and Orchestre Symphonique d’Anjou (F), Orchestre de l’Université d’Angers (F), and he has collaborated with the National Tosti Institute, with the ‘Tosti Ensemble’, with spanish tenore Joaquin Pixan, with the <M&M> Orchestra, Bacau Philarmonia Orchestra (Romania). He has received a host of awards: “Logos Honorary Award” (2010), “AAAI Best Video Award”, recipient of the scholarship by the International Wagner Foundation in Bayreuth and “Creativity on the piano” prize (2015), “Mameli Prize” (2017), etc. As a pianist he has recorded 4 CDs: one dedicated to popular music from his region (Edizioni Menabò, 2010), one dedicated to operatic piano transcriptions (Opera Sessions, Andromeda Editions, 2013), one to futurism and artificial intelligence (Logos Session, Logos Productions, 2015) and one devoted to the music of Flemish composer Philippe Wesemael (2016)
